Mayo is a census-designated place in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Mayo is known in the area as Edgewater. As of 2000, Mayo’s population was approximately 3,000. Mayo is locally known as “The Land of Pleasant Living” and has evolved from a beach resort community to a bedroom community for the Washington Baltimore Metropolitan Area.

Mayo History

Mayo was named for Commodore Isaac Mayo, whose historic residence is located in the town. Commodore Mayo was a United States Naval war hero, the Captain of the USS Constitution, and most famous for his resignation from the US Navy at the onset of the Civil War.

Mayo Parks and Recreation

Mayo is home to many great recreational areas for the use of the community’s residents and visitors. Mayo is dedicated to maintaining safe and fun recreational areas for everyone to enjoy.

Edgewater Park
Edgewater Park features fields for soccer, baseball, football, softball, and tennis.

Loch Haven Park
Loch Haven Park is home to many multi-purpose fields, a basketball court, a tennis court, and baseball and softball fields.

Mayo Beach Park
Mayo Beach Park offers picnic areas, fishing, and wind surfing.

Mayo Events

Mayo is home to many great events that take place throughout the year. Come socialize with your neighbors at the Pancake Breakfast or spend time with your family at the May Day festival. Whatever you choose, here in Mayo you are bound to have a great time!

Back to the Beach
Back to the Beach is Mayo’s annual car, truck and motorcycle show.

May Day on Main Street
Come enjoy the free entertainment and great children’s activities! There is a balloon artist and face painter, pony rides, a jumbo slide and a little train. There is also an art fair and craft bazaar.

Pancake Breakfast
Pancake Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage and eggs cooked to order, coffee and orange juice. All proceeds benefit the club and their efforts in the community.
